Visitors' comments about Mansfield Bowling Club

Amy Silverston on 18th October 2008 ()
The Mansfield Bowling Club proposes to build housing on its land. It is all rather odd: in the local they say they have a shortfall of around £30k. They intend to solve this by building about £9m worth of houses. Sledgehammers and nuts are the words that come to mind, especially as it is not clear whether they have looked at ways of turning what they have into a leisure and sports facility for the four schools within five minutes walk, or the wider neighbourhood residents.
The planning application is not available anywhere, so no-one is able to comment upon it, though we know that the developers want to excavate underground car parking for a dozen cars right on the sport where there is a tributary of the Fleet River. (the people in a house that backs onto the site just suffered a huge and crippling increase in the cost of building works because of this geological inconvenience, and that was just a few square metres, not 9 garages worth)
The local residents are eager to help the bowling club to develop a plan to make their facilities sustainable, and have lots of ideas and expertise. Are the bowling club interested in bringing in the local community to help find a solution to their problems?
